PEOPLE V. GURULE, TIMOTHY- On May 19, 2018. Defendant was hanging out in the garage of Victim' A.B.'s home when Defendant attacked the victim with a hammer, striking him in the head. A.B. is over 70 years old and ended up in the hospital in critical condition with serious injuries. The Defendant then stole the A.B.'s truck and fled. Defendant was convicted of a felony violation of Penal Code section 664/187(a), Attempted Murder, Vehicle Code section 10851(a), Automobile Theft, and a prior Strike. Defendant was sentenced to 15 years 4 months state prison. This case was prosecuted by DA Stewart with assistance from Glenn County Sheriff's Office Deputies Zarate and Corbin.
PEOPLE v. STUDYVIN, LAWRENCE- Defendant was previously convicted of a felony violation of Penal Code section 666.5, Vehicle Theft with a Prior conviction of Vehicle Theft. Defendant was re-sentenced to 7 years and 4 months in prison. The case was prosecuted by DA Stewart with assistance from Orland Police Department Officers Mills and Ayres.

PAROLE DENIED!
PEOPLE V. ELLESBURY, CLARENCE - In 1992, Inmate Clarence Vern Ellesbury was convicted of Penal Code section 187, Second-Degree Murder for killing his wife. The murder occurred when Ellesbury learned his wife had been unfaithful to him and he responded by strangling her to death with his bare hands. Ellesbury then packed her deceased body and her children into the car and drove to a remote location to dump her body. Please see the attached 1991 Press Release photo for more information on the facts of the case. The Glenn County Sheriff's Office then Detective Buxton and then Officer Randall (who later became mayor of Orland, California) later arrested Ellesbury when he attempted to return to his wife’s body with plans to conceal/dispose of it further in order to cover up his crimes. This case was originally prosecuted by DA Bob Holzapfel. Inmate Ellesbury was sentenced to 15 years to life and has had parole granted at the last 2 parole hearings. However, in reviewing the last 2 decisions to release Inmate Ellesbury, the Governor overrode the Parole Board’s decision and has kept Inmate Ellesbury in prison. A primary reason for a denial is that this Inmate continued to pose an unreasonable risk to the public.
On June 17th 2020, a 3rd parole hearing was held for Inmate Ellesbury at Deuel Vocational Institution (DVI) in Tracy, California. DDA Coffey attended the hearing on behalf of the Glenn County District Attorney’s Office to argue against the Inmate’s release on parole. After nearly 3 hours of testimony and deliberations, the Parole Board voted to deny Inmate Ellesbury’s parole for 3 years.
PEOPLE V. VILLASENOR-OROZCO, BARTOLO - Defendant was convicted of a felony violation of Penal Code section 288(a), Lewd and Lascivious Acts on a Child Under 14, to wit a 9 year old. Defendant was sentenced to 6 years state prison. This case was prosecuted by ADA Neumann with assistance from Glenn County Sheriff's Office Deputy Lemmon.

LAFRANCE, PAUL TOM.- Defendant was convicted of felony violations of Penal Code section 273.5(f)(1), Corporal Injury on a Cohabitant with a Prior Domestic Violence Conviction, and Penal Code section 273a(a), Child Endangerment. Defendant was sentenced to 7 years and 4 months in state prison. The case was prosecuted by DA Stewart with assistance from Orland Police Department Officer Fullmore.
PEOPLE V. COLTON SMITH - Defendant was previously convicted of NINE different felony violations of theft including Vehicle Code section 10851, Auto Theft, 594, Vandalism, and 12022.1, Committing New Felonies While Out on Own Recognizance and was found in violation of probation. Defendant was sentenced to 10 years prison including two consecutive cases in Shasta and Yolo that were resentenced. This case was prosecuted by DA Stewart with assistance from Glenn County Probation Officer Gray, Orland Police Department Officers Andrade and Lowery and Sgt. Cessna, and CHP Willows Officers Roach, Baxter, Murphy, and Ollar.
PEOPLE V. DENIZ, CHRISTOPHER- Defendant was convicted of a misdemeanor violation of Penal Code sections 243(e)(1), Domestic Battery and previously convicted of 459, Second Degree Burglary, and Health and Safety code section 11550(a), Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance, Business and Professions Code section 4060, Possession of a Controlled Substance without a Prescription. Defendant was found in violation for the 7th time and 3rd time on two prior misdemeanor cases. Defendant was sentenced to 664 days in jail and probation was terminated. The case was prosecuted by DDA Coffey with assistance from Glenn County Sheriff's OfficeDeputy Thompson.
PEOPLE V. RODRIGUEZ, JAIME- Defendant was convicted of a felony violation of Penal Code section 273.5(a), Corporal Injury on the Mother of his Children, and two misdemeanor violations of Penal Code section 273.6(a), Violation of a Criminal Protective Order. Defendant was sentenced to 5 years in state prison. The case was prosecuted by DDA Neumann with assistance from Willows Police Department Sgt. Walter and Officer Sheldon and Victim Witness Advocate Pinedo.
PEOPLE V. LEON, ERIC - Defendant was convicted of a misdemeanor violations of Penal Code section 273.6, Violating a Domestic Violence Restraining Order and Penal Code section 148, Resisting Arrest. Defendant was sentenced to 544 days jail. This case was prosecuted by DDA Coffey with assistance from Orland Police Sergeants Vlach and Johnson, and Officer Carmon.

SYNDERGAARD, BRETT- Defendant was previously convicted of a felony violation of Vehicle Code sections 23153(a), DUI with Injury and Penal Code section 243.1, Battery on Custodial Officer and was found in violation of probation for the 8th time. Defendant was sentenced to 2 years 8 months state prison. This case was prosecuted by DA Stewart wiith assistance from Glenn County Probation Department Officer Permann.
PEOPLE v. ROBERSON, KENNETH WAYNE - Defendant was convicted by a jury trial of a felony violation of Penal Code section 30305(a)(1), Felon in Possession of Ammunition with Special Allegations in violation of Penal Code section 667(c)&(e) and 1170.12 for 5 Prior Felony Convictions as Strike Priors. Defendant was sentenced to 6 years in state prison. This case was prosecuted by DDA Neumann with assistance from Willows Police Department Sergeant Stover.
PEOPLE V. HERNANDEZ, DENISE- Defendant was convicted of a felony violation of Penal Code section 530.5(a), Identity Theft. Defendant was also found in violation of mandatory supervision for the previous convictions of felony violations of Penal Code section 475(a), Possessing Forgery Paper, Penal Code section 459, Second Degree Burglary, and Penal Code section 496(a), Receiving Stolen Property. Defendant was sentenced to 4 years and 11 days in prison. The case was prosecuted by DDA Coffey with assistance from Orland Police Department Officer Fullmore.

OLIVEIRA, JOSEPH- Defendant was convicted of a felony violation of Penal Code section 496d(a), Possession of a Stolen Motorcycle and a misdemeanor violation of Penal Code section 273.6, Violation of a Restraining Order. Defendant was found in violation of probation for the 3rd time in a misdemeanor case for which probation is now permanently terminated. Defendant was sentenced to 3 years in state prison and a concurrent 2 years for the misdemeanor cases. The case was prosecuted by DDA Neumann with assistance from Glenn County Sheriff's Office Deputies Barnes and Ramirez.
PEOPLE v. HERNANDEZ, CONSUELO- Defendant was convicted of a felony violation of Vehicle Code section 23550/ 23152(a), DUI with 3 Prior DUI Convictions, and was found in violation of probation for a prior DUI. Defendant was sentenced to 420 days in county jail and 5 years of formal probation. The case was prosecuted by DDA Harbarger with assistance from CHP Officer Williams and Glenn County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Lemmon.
PEOPLE V. WILLS, CALEB- Defendant was convicted of a felony violation of Penal Code section 273.5(a), Corporal Injury on Cohabitant. Defendant was previously convicted of a felony violation of Penal Code section 245(a)(4), Assault Likely to Cause Great Bodily Injury, was found in violation of probation, and probation was permanently revoked. Defendant was sentenced to 5 years in state prison. The case was prosecuted by DDA Neumann with assistance from Glenn County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Zarate.
